How many language classes should I take a week?

The amount of hours you take highly depends on how fast you want results. Leisure learners take one hour a week, aggressive learners take up to 5 hours a week. We would suggest 90 minutes, possibly twice a week. This seems to be the best investment for the best results. You will never fall out of the language, keep practicing your grammar and vocabulary, and become conversational in a few months.

Can I learn a language if am not good with grammar?

Language learning is made of two worlds: grammar and vocabulary. They respectively represent logic and memory. If you are good in math, you are a logical human being, therefore making sentences will be easier for you. If you have good memory, you will lean more words faster, and you will be able to say and understand the language sooner.  Whatever your strengths and weaknesses, do not judge yourself too early. Embrace your nature, some things will come more natural, and others will require more work.

Is homework important when learning a language?

Yes, if you are willing to do it! There usually are two types of homework: memory and logic. You should review your new words everyday to help your brain memorize them, and you should try to use your new words in sentences to out them in practice. The more hours you take, the less importance homework has. So nothing is mandatory, but the results you achieve will also depend on your work outside of class.

Do I have to buy books to learn a language?

No, we do not use textbooks. But because we all learn better when we see things, we will write our textbook together! Take a look at our section on learning tool to better understand how your learning experience will be.

How long does it take to be fluent in a language?

Results show that a student can be conversational on a variety of topics, thought with limited vocabulary and a few mistakes, within a year. This result is based on a 90 min class a week and about 15 min of self review a day in between classes.

Is Duolingo enough to learn a language?

The straight forward answer is NO. Duolingo is a great complement to your learning journey, but it cannot be enough. Why? The simple answer is "With an app you do not learn to speak". You will learn to understand, grow vocabulary, get some grammar, but until you sit in front of another human being and start talking, you will not want to say "I can speak another language".
